Enoch’s Flood and Fire Prophecy in Genesis, Job, and the New Testament

Enoch’s flood and fire prophecy begins with a righteous man, Enoch, declaring that there would be a flood and a fiery judgment because of the widespread violence and corruption caused by angelic rebellion against God and His created world. An angelic adversary named Azazel taught men to make weapons of violence and women to beautify themselves in order to entice other heavenly angels (‘sons of God’) into leaving their proper domain in heaven and coming down to earth to marry and impregnate the human women. This unholy union would produce giant offspring that the earth and man’s labor could not sustain. As a result, these giants would fill the earth with violence, destroying and corrupting the whole world, including eating the flesh of humans and animals and drinking their blood.

As a result of this violence and corruption, a flood would be announced that would destroy all the inhabitants of the earth, including the humans, the animals, and the giants. God would prepare an ark for righteous Noah, his family, and pairs of all the animals that came to him, to keep them alive. After the flood, the evil spirits (demons) of the giant offspring would wreak havoc upon the earth, causing humans to eat flesh, drink blood, and offer sacrifices to appease the bloodlust of these evil spirits. God would then pronounce judgment on the rebellious angels for what they had done, binding them until the fiery judgment at the end of time. After this judgment, the fallen angels and the evil spirits would no longer have power to corrupt and destroy, and the earth would be healed and restored to its original purpose of abundant blessings, peace, and righteousness.

I. The Righteous Man and The Adversary

1. What use to God is a Righteous and Blameless Man?

“Can a man be of use to God? Can even a wise man benefit Him? Does it delight the Almighty that you are righteous? Does He profit if your ways are blameless?” (Job 22:2-3, BSB).

“There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil” (Job 1:1, ESV).

“This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God” (Genesis 6:9, NIV).

2. Enoch the Righteous Prophet of God

“Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he fathered Methuselah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:22-24, NASB).

Enoch, a righteous man, who with God, answered and spoke, while his eyes were open, and he saw a holy vision in the heavens. This the angels showed me” (1 Enoch 1:2, RL translation).

“And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones. To execute judgement upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him” (1 Enoch 1:9, RHC).

And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied as to these, saying: “Behold, the Lord has come amidst myriads of His holy ones, to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly concerning all the works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him” (Jude 1:14-15, BLB).

3. The Adversary to the Righteous Man

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan, ‘From where do you come?’ So Satan answered the Lord and said, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.’ Then the Lord said to Satan, ‘Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?’ So Satan answered the Lord and said, ‘Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!’ And the Lord said to Satan, ‘Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.’ So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord” (Job 1:6-12, NIV).

“Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8, BSB).

“And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18, NKJV).

4. The Adversary Teaches Men to Make Weapons and Women to Beautify Themselves

“And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways” (1 Enoch 8:1-2, RHC).

“Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah” (Genesis 4:22, NIV).

“He is to cast sacred lots to determine which goat will be reserved as an offering to the LORD and which will carry the sins of the people to the wilderness of Azazel” (Leviticus 16:8, NLT).

II. Enoch’s Flood Prophecy

5. Marrying and Giving in Marriage in the Days of Noah

And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children’” (1 Enoch 6:1-3, RHC).

“Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose; There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown” (Genesis 6:1-2;4, NKJV).

“And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind” (1 Enoch 7:1-4, RHC).

6. The Giants Eating Flesh and Drinking Blood in the Days of Noah

“And [they] began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, and to drink their blood. Then the earth reproved the unrighteous” (1 Enoch 7:5-6, RL translation).

“The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5, ESV).

“For as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and took away all” (Matthew 24:38-39, BLB).

7. The Old Path that the Wicked have Trod

“Will you keep to the old path that the wicked have trod?” (Job 22:15, NIV).

“Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth” (Genesis 6:11-12, ESV).

“And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin” (1 Enoch 10:8, RHC).

8. All Evil will be Destroyed from the Earth

destroy the children of fornication, the offspring of the Watchers, from among men; bring them forth, and excite them one against another. Let them perish by mutual slaughter” (1 Enoch 10:9, RL translation)

Destroy all wrong from the face of the earth and let every evil work come to an end: and let the plant of righteousness and truth appear: and it shall prove a blessing; the works of righteousness and truth’ shall be planted in truth and joy for evermore” (1 Enoch 10:16, RHC).

“And God said to Noah, ‘I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth’” (Genesis 6:13, ESV).

9. Washed Away by a Flood

“Go to Noah and tell him in my name ‘Hide thyself!’ and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. And now instruct him that he may escape and his seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world” (1 Enoch 10:2-3, RHC).

“‘I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.’ Noah did everything just as God commanded him” (Genesis 6:17-22, NIV).

“They were carried off before their time, their foundations washed away by a flood. They said to God, ‘Leave us alone! What can the Almighty do to us?’” (Job 22:16-17, NIV).

10. The Continuation of Violence and Destruction on Earth through Demonic Possession

“And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble” (1 Enoch 15:8-11, RHC).

“When Jesus arrived on the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, He was met by two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. ‘What do You want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?’” (Matthew 8:28-29, BSB).

“they take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them” (1 Enoch 15:11-12, RHC).

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, NKJV).

11. Demons will Lead Humanity Astray into Sacrificing Animals and Consuming Flesh and Blood

“Here shall stand the angels who have connected themselves with women, and their spirits assuming many different forms are defiling mankind and shall lead them astray into sacrificing to demons as gods, (here shall they stand,) till the day of the great judgement in which they shall be judged till they are made an end of” (1 Enoch 19:1, RHC).

“Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The LORD smelled the הַנִּיחֹחַ֒ (han·nî·ḥō·aḥ) and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done” (Genesis 8:20, NIV).

“The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts” (Revelation 9:20-21, NIV).

12. Command Not to Consume Flesh or Blood

“But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood” (Genesis 9:4, NKJV).

“For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us, to lay upon you no further burden, except these necessary things: to abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from sexual immorality. Keeping yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell” (Acts 15:28-29, BLB).

“Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food… It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall” (Romans 14:20-21, NIV).

13. Command to Worship God and serve Him only—Not Demons!

“And all the children of men shall become righteous, and all nations shall offer adoration and shall praise Me, and all shall worship Me” (1 Enoch 10:21, RHC).

“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons” (1 Corinthians 10:21, NIV).

“‘Away from Me, Satan!’ Jesus declared. ‘For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only’’” (Matthew 4:10, BSB, referencing Deuteronomy 6:13).

“Reconcile now and be at peace with Him; thereby good will come to you. Receive instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored” (Job 22:21-23, BSB).

III. Enoch’s Fiery Judgment Prophecy

14. The Lofty Stars and their Fiery Judgment

“Is not God as high as the heavens? Look at the highest stars, how lofty they are! Yet you say: ‘What does God know? Does He judge through thick darkness? Thick clouds veil Him so He does not see us as He traverses the vault of heaven’” (Job 22:12-14, BSB).

“His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it” (Revelation 12:4, ESV).

“And I saw a flaming fire. And beyond these mountains Is a region the end of the great earth: there the heavens were completed. And I saw a deep abyss, with columns of heavenly fire, and among them I saw columns of fire fall, which were beyond measure alike towards the height and towards the depth. And beyond that abyss I saw a place which had no firmament of the heaven above, and no firmly founded earth beneath it: there was no water upon it, and no birds, but it was a waste and horrible place. I saw there seven stars like great burning mountains, and to me, when I inquired regarding them, The angel said: ‘This place is the end of heaven and earth: this place is the end of heaven and earth: this has become a prison for the stars and the host of heaven. And the stars which roll over the fire are they which have transgressed the commandment of the Lord in the beginning of their rising, because they did not come forth at their appointed times. And He was wroth with them, and bound them till the time when their guilt should be consummated (even) for ten thousand years” (1 Enoch 18:9-16, RHC).

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41, NIV).

“And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false prophet had already been thrown. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead, and each one was judged according to his deeds. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:10-15, BSB).

15. God Never intended Angels to Marry or Procreate

“Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons? ” (1 Enoch 15:3, RHC).

“Therefore have I given them [the children of men] wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. But you were formerly spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling” (1 Enoch 15:5-7, RHC).

“But Jesus answered them, ‘You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven’” (Matthew 22:29-30, ESV).

16. His Angels He Charges with Error

“Can mortal man be in the right before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error; how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like the moth” (Job 4:17-19, ESV).

“And He answered and said to me, and I heard His voice: ‘Fear not, Enoch, thou righteous man and scribe of righteousness: approach hither and hear my voice. And go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent thee to intercede for them: ‘You should intercede for men, and not men for you’” (1 Enoch 15:1-2, RHC).

“And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood” (1 Enoch 15:4, RHC).

17. Bind the Fallen Angels until their Fiery Judgment

Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dudael, and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire” (1 Enoch 10:4-6, RHC).

“Go, bind Semjaza and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgement and of their consummation, till the judgement that is for ever and ever is consummated. In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: and to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever” (1 Enoch 10:11-13, RHC).

“For if God did not spare the angels having sinned, but having cast them down to Tartarus, in chains of gloomy darkness, delivered them, being kept for judgment” (2 Peter 2:4, BLB).

“And the angels who did not stay within their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling—these He has kept in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment on that great day” (Jude 1:6, BLB).

18. Heal the Earth that the Angels have Corrupted

“And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons” (1 Enoch 10:7, RHC).

“And the earth shall be cleansed from all defilement, and from all sin, and from all punishment, and from all torment, and I will never again send (them) upon it from generation to generation and for ever” (1 Enoch 10:22, RHC).

“‘And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.’ Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: ‘And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth’ (Genesis 9:7-11, NKJV).

“Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the main street of the city. On either side of the river stood a tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit and yielding a fresh crop for each month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations” (Revelation 22:1-2, BSB).

19. Abundant Blessings Upon the Earth

“And then shall the whole earth be tilled in righteousness, and shall all be planted with trees and be full of blessing. And all desirable trees shall be planted on it, and they shall plant vines on it: and the vine which they plant thereon shall yield wine in abundance, and as for all the seed which is sown thereon each measure (of it) shall bear a thousand, and each measure of olives shall yield ten presses of oil” (1 Enoch 10:18-19, RHC).

“After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard” (Genesis 9:20, NLT).

“Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it” (Genesis 2:15, NKJV).

“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’ Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.’ And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:28-31, NIV).

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5, BSB, referencing Psalm 37:11).

20. The Restoration of All Things

“Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets” (Acts 3:21, BSB).

“And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house… Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning” (Job 42:10-12, NKJV).

“And cleanse thou the earth from all oppression, and from all unrighteousness, and from all sin, and from all godlessness: and all the uncleanness that is wrought upon the earth destroy from off the earth” (1 Enoch 10:20, RHC).

“For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time” (Romans 8:20-22, NIV).

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4, NKJV, alluding to Isaiah 25:8).
